VA takes on DARPA's Subterranean Challenge

The DARPA Subterranean Challenge, or SubT, is soliciting proposals for new approaches to rapidly map, navigate, and search underground environments, according to a DARPA statement.

“One of the main limitations facing war fighters and emergency responders in subterranean environments is a lack of situational awareness; we often don’t know what lies beneath us,” said Timothy Chung, a program manager in DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office. “The DARPA Subterranean Challenge aims to provide previously unimaginable situational awareness capabilities for operations underground.”

Here at Vital Alert, we can solve DARPA’s SubT environment challenge using our VLF technology to communicate through any materials including, rock, soil and concrete, for up to 300m below the ground, both vertically and horizontally.  Being able to send voice, text, and data through the earth, allows security teams to communicate with one another underground and to the surface,  during emergency situations.

Vital Alert hosts Toyota ITC

Vital Alert Communication Inc. hosted representatives from Toyota InfoTechnology Center Co., Ltd. and Toyota Tsusho America, Inc. at the Carleton University Campus to demonstrate Vital Alert’s positioning technology as part of the infrastructure to support autonomous vehicles. Vital Alert successfully demonstrated the use of Very Low Frequency (VLF) technology to provide accurate (0.5m) positioning data in an environment where typical positioning technologies such as GPS and Wi-Fi do not perform well, due to blockage and reflection of the signals by tall buildings. This demonstration builds upon research in the field of electromagnetic modelling performed in conjunction with the Department of Earth Sciences and the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, Carleton University.

VA at National Mine Rescue 2017

Vital Alert Communication is excited to to be taking part in the National Mine Rescue, First Aid, Bench, Skills and Preshift Contest at the National Mine Academy in Beaver, West Virginia between September 11–14, 2017!

Mine rescue contests are designed to sharpen skills and test the knowledge of team members who would be called on to respond to a mine emergency. The contest requires team members to solve a hypothetical problem while being timed and observed by judges according to complex rules.

As a leader in communication devices for mining operations, Vital Alert is inspired by the opportunity to show how our Through-the-Earth technology can break barriers and save lives!

Vital Alert and Toyota-ITC Research Positioning for Smart Cars and Cities

Vital Alert is excited to announce the second agreement with Toyota – ITC for the development of positioning technology in smart cities to support the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles. As part of our first agreement, we proved that Very Low Frequency (VLF) technology is able to provide positioning data in urban environments. This follow on agreement will take the technology to the next level by improving the accuracy and positioning.

This agreement is another validation Vital Alert is a world leader in Very Low Frequency technology, enabling smart cities, autonomous vehicles and through-the-earth communications.

Vital Alert at CANSEC 2017

Vital Alert Communication exhibiting at CANSEC 2017: Announcing our smallest Through-The-Earth Communication device ever!

Vital Alert is excited to announce the release of the Canary CommPac, our smallest and lightest Through-The-Earth Communication device yet. The CommPac is an exceptionally portable, body-wearable unit.  Like our other TTE products, it is completely infrastructure free, allowing it to be deployed with ease. CommPac has the ability to send and receive voice, text, and data and allows for full interoperability to existing communication radios.  This key feature can extend the capability of traditional communications devices to non RF environments.

Like our other TTE devices, larger antennas can be used to achieve greater distances through RF impenetrable objects.  CommPac is offered with a number of antenna options for different applications, from fully portable operation to fixed links with ranges of up to 300m below ground.

It can be powered by standardized battery packs already used by military services. This reduces complexity and preserves existing investments.

Vital Alert is now taking pre-production orders and invites attendees to come to Booth 1533 at the EY Centre near MacDonald-Cartier Airport to discuss how units can be customized for their needs.
