On November 26, 2018, Vital Alert demonstrated its vehicle and pedestrian positioning system for dense urban environments in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan for Toyota ITS (Intelligent Transportation System).

The system uses very low frequency signals to accurately determine the location position of objects in urban traffic intersections including vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

The system is intended for dense urban environments where GPS signals are unavailable or inaccurate.

The demonstration validated the <0.4 meter accuracy objective. GPS position accuracy showed a mean error of >30 meters at the same intersection.

The Tokyo demonstration intersection is typical of many in Tokyo and in other large cities.
